I'm on Germany Ja! again

My article about things I thought would be worrisome when I moved to Germany (and those things weren't a bit deal after all) has been published on Germany Ja!

Here's the link to the Germany Ja! version.

For the record: neither Moo nor I are pictured in the article.

  1. I just read your article - nice! I like reading about other expats who don't find the usual complaints annoying. I must be from the same state, because our "state bird" is also the mosquito! (I actually think most U.S. states claim that; not very original of them) But I live auf dem Ländle - definitely in the country - and we don't have major bug problems either despite no screens. Air conditioning - no thank you! The Germans believe it's unhealthy to keep the inside as icy as we Americans tend to do, and I'm starting to agree.

I look forward to exploring your blog further.

  2. Hi, Ami. Thanks for stopping by!

I bet that there are many common sayings that circulate among the states :) For example, I've heard this one in several states: "if you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes and it will change."

During the winter we like to say that we're thankful for deep snow because it fills in the potholes.

I do miss air conditioning every so often, but what I really miss is a non-chain coffee shop (or, in Kaiserslautern, at least) that's open in the evenings and has wireless. Once in a while I like to leave the house to do homework etc. and I have yet to find a good place to plop down with my laptop for a while.
