I ordered this drink several times this summer: Eisschokolade, and it was delicious. I saw it at cafes, restaurants, and I even drank one at the bookstore, Thalia!
It's basically a creamy, chocolaty milky drink, served with a scoop or two of ice cream in it with Schlagsahne (whipped cream, but not the hyper sweet American kind; this kind is so much better in this drink!) and a possible wafer/cookie on top.
It's really refreshing during the hot weather. To me, it pretty much tastes like what German hot chocolate would taste like if it were chilled.
The next drink I want to try is neu wein (new wine). It appears that it's the season for it now.
I loooove Eisschokolade! I've actually only had it once in Cologne at the Schokoladenmuseum, but it was amazing. I didn't know they sell that at Thalia. If the one in Heidelberg had any kind of beverages at all I don't recall seeing them.
ReplyDeleteI had not heard of neuwein so I looked it up. Apparently it's sold under the name"Federweisser". Another thing it will be the season for soon is Glühwein. Don't know if you've had that, but it's usually sold at the Christmas markets.
DeleteYep, there is Eisschokolade at quite a few places downtown; I noticed this while walking around today. I also just had to try some Federweisser today since one of the political parties was actually selling some. I knew that politics were useful for something ;) I bought a bottle, too, from the farmers' market. It's really good! Unfortunately, it tastes like grape juice, so I'll have to be careful to not drink too much. I drank Glühwein this past winter. It's a bit too sweet for me (ironic given that I like Federweisser), but interesting, none the less.
